Episode #55 - Happy Second Podcast Anniversary!

Submitted by ElderDaniel on January 16, 2010 - 2:27am.

* This is Episode #55 for Jan 16, 2010.
(Download MP3)

// REMEMBERING NATALIE / THE BOOM EFFECT
* Before the episode gets started, I want to take a brief moment of your time. On January 5, 2010, Natalie Morris, the wife of Tee Morris, passed away. Tee Morris is well known in the realm of podcasting, being the very first podiobook author. He has been an inspiration to me and many of my fellow podcasters. Tee now has the unenviable job of raising his daughter, lovingly nicknamed "Sonic Boom", on his own. Phillippa Ballantine recently set up a Chip-In account online to raise money for a college trust fund for "Sonic Boom", as well as holding an auction soon, dubbed The Boom Effect, to further contribute to the fund. If you haven't already heard about these efforts I want to point you to the websites. They are RememberNatalie.org and TheBoomEffect.org.

// LILITH'S LOVE
* Author and fan of the show, Emerian Rich, listed LILITH'S LOVE in her list of ten favorite books of 2009! Thanks Emz!
* Should I cross-post LILITH'S LOVE episodes here?
- I dropped #1 here to whet everyone's appetite and share my latest project with you all. But the hope was that folks would then visit the LILITH'S LOVE podcast feed for more. The episodes will soon be on Podiobooks.com, so you'll soon have two places to subscribe.

// BOOKS
* I finished reading SOULLESS by Gail Carriger.
- What a delightful book! 10 out of 10! It is funny, action-packed, romantic, sexy, and full of Victorian vampires, werewolves, and ghosts! Oh my! I cannot recommend this book highly enough. I am eagerly awaiting the sequel! A full review, and hopefully an interview with the author, will follow soon.

// THEATRE
* This winter Great Lakes Theater Festival in Cleveland, Ohio will be presenting a new one-act play, THE DARK SIDE OF TWILIGHT by David Hansen, as its free, outreach touring play.
- It will play in 21 venues across three counties in northern Ohio as part of its community outreach "Surround" programming. THE DARK SIDE OF TWILIGHT is inspired by four pivotal examples of Gothic vampire literature - Polidori's THE VAMPYRE, Stoker's DRACULA, Rice's INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE, and Meyer's TWILIGHT. The performances, free and open to the public, begin in mid-February 2010 and run for about a month.
- David let me know about his play and offered to send a draft of the play my way to read. It is an absolutely wonderful homage to vampire literature. Full of suspense, romance, drama and some laughs, sprinkled with lots of nods to the genre that made me smile. If you are in Ohio, you should definitely check this out.

// PROMOS
* Horror Addicts podcast, hosted by Emerian Rich, author of Night's Knights, a vampire podiobook.
* FETIDUS by James Durham.
* BLOOD WITNESS by Dave Hitt.

// TV
* Review of new BBC TV show DEMONS
- Michelle and I both enjoyed the first episode. It definitely has potential. It certainly has borrowed from a lot of different places, like Buffy and every Dracula derivative you can imagine. But, the idea of the ragtag group using (pseudo)science against the Inhumans is unique vs. the typical religious dogma.
* Vampire Diaries Returns Jan 21, 2010.
* http://www.eonline.com/uberblog/watch_with_kristin/b159209_could_vampire_craze_resurrect_moonlight.html

- Seriously, you gotta see this one.
* Lost Boys 3: The Thirst is in production
- Starring Corey Feldman, Jamison Newlander, and Tanit Phoenix. LB3 will hit DVD shelves later this year.
- God help me, I do want to see this. I just can't help myself.
